Thank you for a successful summer, all you wonderful campers, parents, volunteers, and dedicated Camp Mennoscah folks!  Your prayers and support were amazing and the summer youth camps went swimmingly.

There was a flurry of adjustments during the first week of camp with the help of program directors (and teachers) Greg and Amanda.  These adjustments, vetted by the Kingman County Health Director, made camp feel much more like previous summers.  Woo-hoo!  There were some changes this summer for safety with repurposed military tents used as "cabins" for additional space between bunks and adjusted swimming and activities.  Kayaking and inner tubing were added as new activities--a hoot for all!

Campers and unvaccinated staff were tested upon arrival with only one false positive for the whole summer.  The majority of program and support staff was vaccinated with only minimal unvaccinated staff each week.  For Junior High 2 and Senior High Camps, both at the end of the summer and with campers over the age of 12, there were high percentages of vaccinated campers, too.

We are grateful for a safe summer and absolutely cannot wait until next summer!  Stay safe, stay healthy and we'll see you again soon.

Many guidelines put in place for the COVID-19 pandemic at Camp Mennoscah have changed. Camp Mennoscah continues to follow state and local guidance regarding masking and distancing for camp-led events (youth camps, retreats, etc.). Masks are required in the Main Camp kitchen for all groups and recommended when inside buildings. You and your group will know the comfort level of your group and may determine masking & distancing guidelines (other than the mask requirement in the kitchen), lodging and the serving of meals. Staff will disinfect bathrooms, kitchens, and high-touch surfaces in buildings before a group arrives at camp. If your group is at camp longer than one overnight, additional disinfecting may occur. The sports sheds and canoe shed are open and available for your use. Hand hygiene and food handling recommendations remain the same. Questions and clarifications needed can be directed to Olivia at 620-297-3290.

Camp Mennoscah's facilities are open for guests and church groups!  Camp Mennoscah asks that masks be worn inside buildings (required in the kitchen).  Physical distancing is recommended in all situations, as are masks when you cannot be 6' or more away from others outside.  Families and groups are responsible for managing safety for their groups.  Buffets/potlucks are not recommended by either state or CDC food safety guidelines.  COVID pricing is no longer available.

Since Camp Mennoscah will not be having in-person youth camps this summer, we're presenting Camp in a Box! Camp in a Box is open to people of all ages and is filled with all sorts of items brainstormed by the weekly program directors, summer staff, and camp board of directors. It will be filled with a 2020 T-shirt, name tag, typical camp schedule, camp stickers, devotionals, nature fun, friendship bracelet and lanyard materials, a couple of camp recipes, sidewalk chalk, and a variety of other activities and crafts.

Boxes are $40 and will be delivered in June.  You can also order only the 2020 tee shirt.

If you’re interested in Camp-in-a-Box or Just a Tee Shirt, regardless of your age, you can register for one online at https://campmennoscah.campbrainregistration.com (you may have to create an account, if you do not already have one). You can also call camp and order one at 620-297-3290. Please do so as soon as you’re able so we can include you! Orders requested after June 3 will be more challenging to fulfill.

Updated as of 4/30/2020

Dear Camp Mennoscah community,

After much prayer and conversation, we have made the difficult decision to cancel 2020 summer youth camps at Camp Mennoscah. We as camp staff and camp board have spent much time considering the challenges and risks of moving forward with summer camp as usual, as well as thinking about creative ways to still have camp in person. However, because the safety of campers and staff is our top priority, we could not envision a way to safely and responsibly continue in-person summer camps at Camp Mennoscah in the midst of this COVID-19 pandemic.

Camp Mennoscah is committed to connecting with you despite the cancellation of in-person camps for the summer, and we are already dreaming of ideas to share the camp community in some form this summer. Your creative ideas are welcomed.

This decision is incredibly saddening to us, and we will miss the laughter, joy, spiritual encounters, and new friendships that happen during summer youth camps. As our society continues to learn about this virus and develop new safety procedures and guidelines, we are hopeful that camp will be the vibrant place of community and faith formation again soon, and we will keep you updated about possibilities for being at camp.

We are so grateful for your support during this time,

Camp Mennoscah Staff and Board of Directors

**If your child is registered for summer youth camp, you will be contacted directly by May 15 about your registration.**

**If you have questions about your summer reservation for a church or family group, please contact Camp Mennoscah. At this time, the Family Weekend in July has not been canceled.**

A broad update sharing our current preparations for the summer is below:

  1. We’re still planning on summer youth camps.

We have not made any changes to the summer youth camp schedule, but we are committed to being flexible to meet governmental orders and recommendations.

  1. No-risk registration!

If summer youth camps are canceled, you can request a full refund of paid camp fees, donate your fees, or transfer them to an upcoming program.   Register HERE!

  1. Creative summer camp ideas.

Your safety is first.  The camp experience may be different, but we are committed to sharing Camp Mennoscah and the camp community with you no matter what the summer may bring.  This may be a shortened summer, changes in activities, or even something online.  We will make the best of the situation because camp is needed more than ever!

We will continue to update the website and Facebook page.

We are praying for your safety and wellbeing and we cannot wait until camp is open again for people of all ages and groups of all sizes to connect with God, nature, self, and others.

Blessings,

 The Camp Mennoscah Staff

Updated as of 3/27/2020

  • The April 25 Work & Play Day has been canceled.  Watch for other volunteer opportunities!

Updated as of 3/25/2020

How are you doing?  We're still here and still checking the KDHE and CDC websites for more information.  We spoke with the Kingman County Health Department on Monday.  They are following federal and state recommendations and watching for new developments.  We'll keep in touch with you and them.  Thank you for all your prayers.  We're praying for you, too.  Keep washing your hands and stay healthy!

  • Men & Boys Retreat has been rescheduled to September 4-6, 2020!

Updated as of 3/18/2020
  • We are here for you!  Camp Mennoscah staff may be primarily working from home, but we are steadily answering emails and taking phone calls.  Please offer us grace as we redirect queries to the correct person.
  • With attention to the safety of all, our Retirees Retreat (scheduled for April 20-22) has been cancelled.  It has not been determined if the retreat will be rescheduled for a later date.  Take a moment over these next weeks, have a personal coffee break, remember a story about Camp Mennoscah, and know we are thinking of you.
  • Men & Boys Retreat (previously scheduled for April 3-5) will be postponed to a date in fall yet to be determined.  We will post as soon as we have further details.

Coronavirus (COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2) is much in the news these days. We are monitoring the situation and are aware of the impact the virus may have on you, as well as the broader community.

We have spoken with the Kingman County Health Department and will continue to communicate with them in the coming days, especially in regards to camp events and groups. We are also watching the Kansas Department of Health and Environment website (kdheks.gov) for resources and updates on COVID-19 in Kansas.

We recognize this continues to be a quickly developing situation and where we are today is likely not where we will be next week or even tomorrow. We will do our best to keep you informed.

Wash your hands and stay healthy!

With prayers,
The Camp Mennoscah staff
